Throughout the six years he participated in the 49ers STEM Leadership Institute, Chase Fu has been dedicated to learn extensively about engineering, leadership, and teamwork with his community. He has driven himself to go above and beyond to find what he loves, especially through the Tech Challenge, Science Fair, and Pay it Forward projects. Additionally, his consistent practice with fabrication machines and CAD has given him dozens of opportunities to put ideas from his mind into real life, creating lasting projects to help out others in the lab.

Beyond just the program, Chase has also developed many interests that have built his character. An Eagle Scout of Cupertino Boy Scouts Troop 408, he has shown leadership tens of times through planning and executing campouts on his own and conducting official leadership training sessions for scouts. Scouting has allowed Chase to constantly observe his environment and community, looking for his role to fix problems that are needed. Piano is also a large part of Chase's life. Having played Classical piano for nearly 12 years, he has found the passion for performance and expression through the pieces he has played. Confidence and determination keep Chase going, and he is grateful to have all these activities contribute to who he is as a person.

The 49ers STEM Leadership Institute (49ers SLI) provides multi-year, year-round academic support, STEM enrichment, skills training, and leadership opportunities to students in middle and high school. Students, who are with the program for six years from 7th through 12th grade, commit annually to 300+ hours of program learning time in addition to their typical school hours. By cultivating student mastery in STEM subjects and in key skill areas, the program prepares students for college and empowers them to pursue their passions; so that they may become the well-rounded leaders of the future. The 49ers STEM Leadership Institute is made possible by the strong partnership between Silicon Valley Education Foundation, 49ers Foundation, ASML, and the Santa Clara Unified School District.
