Anvee Sharma is a high school senior with an interest in biomedical research, healthcare, and community outreach. She has explored these interests through a variety of research and clinical experiences, including computational biology research at UC Berkeley’s Nogales Lab, where she studied protein interactions connected to fertility and co-authored a published research. Through the UC Santa Cruz Science Internship Program, she worked with a team to develop a biosensor for detecting Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease and presented the group’s findings to faculty and peers. She also spent a summer interning at an IVF startup, where she observed genetic testing procedures, analyzed chromosomal data, and gained firsthand experience in a professional lab setting.

Outside of research, Anvee has dedicated 4 years to SCHS Mock Trial, serving as Co-President her senior year. She also volunteers at Kaiser Permanente weekly, offering refreshments to family members of those in ICUs and the Emergency Room. Anvee has also trained in Kathak, an Indian classical dance form, for over nine years and has recently earned a diploma for it.

Next fall, Anvee will attend UC Berkeley, where she plans to study neuroscience on the pre-med track.

The 49ers STEM Leadership Institute (49ers SLI) provides multi-year, year-round academic support, STEM enrichment, skills training, and leadership opportunities to students in middle and high school. Students, who are with the program for six years from 7th through 12th grade, commit annually to 300+ hours of program learning time in addition to their typical school hours. By cultivating student mastery in STEM subjects and in key skill areas, the program prepares students for college and empowers them to pursue their passions; so that they may become the well-rounded leaders of the future. The 49ers STEM Leadership Institute is made possible by the strong partnership between Silicon Valley Education Foundation, 49ers Foundation, ASML, and the Santa Clara Unified School District.
