For the duration of his six years in the program, Ash has cultivated a strong passion for STEM and empowering others. He has been heavily involved in STEM Beanies for Babies, where he visited retirement homes teaching senior residents how to knit beanies, donating them to El Camino Hospital. Through his experiences, he gained a deeper appreciation for the importance of collaboration and empathy within technical fields such as engineering and environmental science. He is especially interested in atmospheric sciences, geography, and resource management, which he aspires to pursue further post-college.

Outside of STEM, Ash can often be found on the football field or badminton court. He has played football recreationally for 11 years and currently competes for his school team as well as club programs. He also competes in mens doubles for the school badminton team, where he enjoys supporting his teammates with enthusiasm and analyzing strategy as team captain. He also works as a Recreation Leader for the City of Santa Clara, running camps, workshops, and seasonal activities. In his spare time, he enjoys being outdoors, playing video games with his friends, driving around new places, and trying new foods at local restaurants with his friends.

The 49ers STEM Leadership Institute (49ers SLI) provides multi-year, year-round academic support, STEM enrichment, skills training, and leadership opportunities to students in middle and high school. Students, who are with the program for six years from 7th through 12th grade, commit annually to 300+ hours of program learning time in addition to their typical school hours. By cultivating student mastery in STEM subjects and in key skill areas, the program prepares students for college and empowers them to pursue their passions; so that they may become the well-rounded leaders of the future. The 49ers STEM Leadership Institute is made possible by the strong partnership between Silicon Valley Education Foundation, 49ers Foundation, ASML, and the Santa Clara Unified School District.
