Riley has been a part of the 49ers Stem Leadership Institute (SLI) since 7th grade. Throughout his 6 years, he has learnt to sharpen his soft skills while simultaneously gaining more technical skills. During this time, Riley has become passionate about circuits and financial markets. He plans to take these interests to Purdue University, where he is majoring in Electrical Engineering.

Riley’s favorite part about SLI was the Pay It Forward project, where his group completely changed out the piping system on a local farm. Through this experience, he was able to practice the entire engineering process of identifying a problem, designing a solution, iterating along the way, and executing the final product. More importantly, though, Riley most appreciated being able to leave a positive impact on his community.

Outside of SLI, Riley enjoys practicing calisthenics, cooking and baking in the kitchen, as well as taking long walks while listening to music. Riley hopes to never stop learning and growing as a person.

The 49ers STEM Leadership Institute (49ers SLI) provides multi-year, year-round academic support, STEM enrichment, skills training, and leadership opportunities to students in middle and high school. Students, who are with the program for six years from 7th through 12th grade, commit annually to 300+ hours of program learning time in addition to their typical school hours. By cultivating student mastery in STEM subjects and in key skill areas, the program prepares students for college and empowers them to pursue their passions; so that they may become the well-rounded leaders of the future. The 49ers STEM Leadership Institute is made possible by the strong partnership between Silicon Valley Education Foundation, 49ers Foundation, ASML, and the Santa Clara Unified School District.
