Varun is a dedicated student who has been deeply involved in STEM throughout his academic career. As an SLI student, Varun has cultivated a profound interest in computer science and machine learning. His dedication to these fields is reflected in his role as co-founder of T-Tauri Math, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that has brought competitive math education to hundreds of elementary and middle schoolers through hands-on workshops at local libraries.

Varun has utilized his technical background to advance meaningful research, serving as a first author on a manuscript where he proposed a novel reinforcement learning algorithm to improve global internet routing efficiency. His curiosity and commitment to innovation were further demonstrated through four years of FIRST Tech Challenge, where he developed problem-solving skills, learned to iterate under pressure, and built cross-team collaboration through mentoring younger students in robotics fundamentals. Beyond academics, Varun has demonstrated leadership and discipline through ten years of AAU basketball, earning team captain of his varsity squad and competing internationally in Hawaii, where he learned to balance individual growth with the success of those around him.

Varun is excited to continue exploring how technology can create meaningful change in communities around the world.

The 49ers STEM Leadership Institute (49ers SLI) provides multi-year, year-round academic support, STEM enrichment, skills training, and leadership opportunities to students in middle and high school. Students, who are with the program for six years from 7th through 12th grade, commit annually to 300+ hours of program learning time in addition to their typical school hours. By cultivating student mastery in STEM subjects and in key skill areas, the program prepares students for college and empowers them to pursue their passions; so that they may become the well-rounded leaders of the future. The 49ers STEM Leadership Institute is made possible by the strong partnership between Silicon Valley Education Foundation, 49ers Foundation, ASML, and the Santa Clara Unified School District.
