Shaurya is a dedicated student who has been deeply involved in STEM and how he can use it to benefit the community. As a 49ers STEM Program student for six years, he developed a deep interest in neuroscience and engineering. That passion shows in his science fair projects, where he built a low-cost wearable AI sensor device that detects the early symptoms of Parkinson's Disease for just $50. He also co-develop a Generative AI brain tumor growth model, which gave neurologists a new way to visualize and predict cancer progression and earned his partner and him 1st Place at the Synopsys Science Fair. Shaurya’s interest in medical devices brought him to India, where he wrote medical guides for low-income patients and built low-cost neurological biomarker biosensing devices.

Shaurya’s passion for improving his community motivated him to launch HardwareX.org, where he started the city of Alviso’s first engineering program that teaches computer building to students through free workshops. His four years of dedication to the Alviso community earned him the San Jose Public Library Volunteer of the Year Award. As Co-Captain of FTC Robotics team Erudite, Shaurya worked with his team to launch international robotics workshops for students in Kenya and Pakistan, which helped them qualify to the Regional Championship. Outside of academics, Shaurya has competed in varsity tennis for three years and has spent a decade playing the drum kit. He loves to make original music with friends and perform at community events. Shaurya is excited to attend the University of Michigan, where he wants to continue developing low-cost medical technology that can reach the patients who need it most.
