“Well, I must endure the presence of a few caterpillars if I wish to become acquainted with the butterflies.”
- Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

Jian has spent her past six years in the 49ers STEM Leadership Institute program discovering her passion for human biology and helping others through serving her community and engaging in different projects.
She has participated in different competitions, such as Project Invent and World of 8 Billion in order to improve convenience for an individual with Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and bring attention to the issue of medical waste, respectively. She has also participated in the expansion of the Service Learning and Mentorship (SLAM) program, providing opportunities for elementary students to grow through weekly STEM lessons and activities.
Beyond such projects, Jian has been the secretary of the Interact club for four years and the president of the CSF club for three, in order to recognize academic achievements of her peers and take action to make a difference in local communities.
Outside of school, Jian is dedicated to servicing those around her. She has worked as a teaching assistant for her local Korean School, connecting with students to provide a positive learning experience and cultivate pride in their heritage, as well as an outreach officer for NPA (Neurodiversity and Psychiatry Association), a youth-led nonprofit dedicated to mental health awareness, psychiatry, and neurodiversity.
Jian looks forward to continuing acting for change and learning to provide support to others, even beyond her time as a student.
